Named after New York banker and gem collector John Pierpont Morgan, this gemstone is owes its lovely color to the trace element manganese found in its composition. Morganite is not usually referred to by its special name, but as ‘pink beryl’ because of its pink to purple color.

Morganite is a pleochroic gemstone which means that it can change color when viewed under different artificial lights. While the color typically changes from pale pink to bluish pink, some varieties of morganite can also have a faint purple fluorescence.
